Outline (in English)

By looking at the history of Japonisme in art and design in Britain, this course encourages students to think about how art and design has been inexctricably linked to the society, how "Japan" has been represented and how we can understand other cultures. By the end of the course, students should be able to express their own opinions about intercultural exchange and cultural diversity. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Grades will be decided based on participation (50%) and the final exam (50%).
