Outline (in English)

<Course outline>
Public economics is the field of analyzing the economic activities (policies) of government from an economic perspective (especially microeconomic perspective). In this course, we will deal with government activities such as responding to market failures, social security, and taxation. In addition, some of the people who make up the government are not interested in maximizing social benefits. This course will also consider how the presence of such people affects policy choices.

<Learning Objectives>
(1) Acquire criteria for considering what is a desirable policy
(2) Understand why actual policies sometimes deviate from what is desirable
(3) Understand how we should act in order to create a society in which desirable policies are implemented

<Learning activities outside of classroom>
