Outline (in English)

(Course outline)This course introduces "Omorosaushi", a collection of ritual songs compiled by the Shuri royal government of Ryukyu during the 16th and 17th centuries, the ancient Ryukyuan concept of God, worldview, and Ryukyuan dialect to students taking this course.

(Learning Objectives)The goals of this course are to deepen your understanding of "Omorosaushi", to understand the characteristics of Ryukyu culture, and to understand the differences between Ryukyu dialect and mainland dialect.

(Learning activities outside of classroom)Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your required study time is at least two hours for each class meeting.

(Grading Criteria /Policies)Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following Term-end examination: 50%、Short reports : 40%、in class contribution: 10%
