Outline (in English)

In mathematics and natural science, we can universally and necessarily recognize objects and events. But how does this recognition come about? Kant gives an answer to this problem through the workings of our cognitive faculties - sensibility, understanding, and imagination. This class will explain Kant's theoretical philosophy through the aesthetic and analytic of the Critique of Pure Reason.
The following are the goals of studying Kant's epistemology: 1. To understand his critical philosophy. 2. To develop a philosophical way of thinking by analyzing the question of fact (the truth behind a matter) and the question of right (the conditions needed for that matter to be possible). 3. To improve writing skills by constructing well-reasoned arguments.
Homework: Read the textbook and the handouts in Hoppii to get an overview (2 hours). Review the contents of the previous class using the handouts to ensure that you have acquired the knowledge of epistemology (2 hours).
Grading criteria: (1) Ordinary points (attitude toward lecture, evaluation of assignments, etc.) and (2) Spring semester exam scores. (1) and (2) will each be at a ratio of 50%.
