Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
This course is intended to help students understand water and mass movement mechanisms in river catchments. The course focuses on the understanding of engineering and scientific tools for management of water systems that are required for flood disaster prevention and mitigation, wise use of water resources and preservation of ecosystems.
(Learning Objectives)
A river catchment system is a regional unit that shares social conditions such as culture, climate, and economic activities with natural conditions such as water circulation and ecosystems. In order to build a sustainable society, it is necessary to restore the national land by using the natural symbiotic watershed area as a framework for regional formation. We will introduce research and analysis methods for natural environmental elements such as water quantity, water quality, heat, etc. distributed in a basin, and their application to basin water management through case studies, aiming to acquire and improve management skills.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
In preparation for presentations and question-and-answer sessions, students should collect information from literature and books according to the theme of the lesson plan. The standard time for preparation and review for this class is 2 hours each.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
Grades will be evaluated based on attendance status, practice report (50 points allotted), general discussion and its report (50 points allotted).
