Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Growing globalization requires engineers and researchers to acquire English-handling skills on technical communications and documentations. For this purpose, students will systematically learn organization and development of an English-written academic paper as well as prepare a short paper on their past study related with a specified field such as architecture, urban environment and systems design.

【Learning Objectives】
1) You will understand logical structure of a technical paper and typical expressions.
2) You will acquire the knowledge and development skills on necessary chapters that organize a technical paper such as title, abstract, key words, introduction, material/ method, experiment/ theory, results, discussions, and conclusions.
3) You will prepare key elements from your undergraduate thesis (in Japanese) to develop English version of your thesis.
4) You will establish a short and concise English paper in accordance with general organization and expressions for a typical technical paper based on your undergraduate thesis (in Japanese).

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
The supervisor will evaluate your achievement for learning objectives based on your mark in class attendance (allocation: 40%) and scores in final examination (allocation: 60%), completing your final scores in the full score of 100%. You will earn the credit if you score equal to or more than the score of 60%.
<Learning objectives and corresponding evaluations>
1) Understanding of logical structure of a technical paper and typical expressions: class participation 10%+final examination 10%= total 20%
2) Acquisition of the knowledge and development skills on necessary chapters that organize a technical paper: class participation 10%+final examination 00%=total 20%
3) Preparation for key elements from your undergraduate thesis: class participation 10%+final examination 10%=total 20%
4) Establishing a short and concise English paper in accordance with general organization and expressions: class participation 10%+final examination 30%=total 40%
# A mark in class participation includes assignments, discussions, and others.
# Final examination will be conducted on your English version of undergraduate thesis.
# You will fail to earn the credit if you miss the class more than three times, your final evaluation being applied Grade D.
