Outline (in English)

【Outline】
This course is designed for students who are learning German for the first time. The aim is to provide students with a basic grounding in German grammar. In doing so, students will be introduced to the German language and the culture of German-speaking countries, albeit in fragments. By deepening your interest in and understanding of the German language and German-speaking cultures, we hope that you will deepen your understanding of Japan and other cultural areas.
【Learning Objectives】
By taking this class, you will be able to.
(1) Learn pronunciation rules and be able to pronounce words and sentences that are new to you.
(2) Be able to greet people.
(3) Acquire basic grammatical matters.
(4) Understand simple sentences (e.g. weekly schedule, what happened during the week).
(5) Be able to use numerical expressions (e.g. checking time and prices).
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
No specific preparation is required, but review of what is learnt in each lesson is essential. Although it may take different individuals to consolidate what they have learnt in each session, on average, about one hour of review is standard for each session. Depending on the progress of the class, students may also be required to do some homework in addition to the standard review time, such as exercises or simple writing assignments.
【Grading Criteria/Policy 】
The grade is 50% of normal marks (e.g. class participation (including pair work, group work, etc.), homework, comments, etc.) plus 50% for the examination, with a minimum of 60% (minimum of 30% each).
