Outline (in English)

1. Giving students opportunity to practice and develop their communication skills including speaking, reading, writing, listening and presentation;
2. To improve reading comprehension via textbook units and news articles;
3. To develop a critical approach toward the development of presentation of student research and opinions through speaking, writing and presentation techniques.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

CNN News を教材にしたテキストを使用し、批判的に吟味し、それぞれのトピックに意見を述べる力を養います。様々なトピックを聞き取り、理解したのち、group discussion, presentation の中で自分の意見を英語で表現する練習をします。

到達目標Goal

The first goal of this course is to enable students to learn about various cultural aspects from around the world.　The second goal is for students to develop discussion and critical thinking skills.

授業では、上記の目標を達成するために、授業中実施することは主に次の4つである。
1)warming-up activity: 先週の復習をする。
2)文法・基本例文をおさらいする。
3)音読・リスニング・ディクテーションにより学習ポイントを確認する。
4)正確な文法に支えられた文をもとに、英語でまとまった文章を書く。

・この授業は講義形式ではなく、演習形式で行われる。そのため、受講者の積極的な参加が求められる。
・各授業において、先週のポイントや受講者が行った課題や宿題の良かった点や修正すべき点、共有すべき重要な点などを紹介しながら解説することによって、理解を深める。
