授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
This one-week intensive course will be held in the "autumn session" period, September 13-19, and taught by a guest lecturer, Ms. Him Sothearoth, one of the deputy directors in the General Department of ASEAN, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Cambodia. She has also been teaching International Relations in Royal University of Phnom Penh.
This course will focus on Cambodia's approaches and foreign policy in conducting bilateral and multilateral relations with other ASEAN member states and ASEAN dialogues partners such as Japan, China, and the U.S.
Cambodia, as the ASEAN Chair in 2022, has played a pivotal role in ASEAN's efforts to deal with the five sensitive issues, namely the Myanmar issue, the Ukraine crisis, the Taiwan strait, the South China Sea and the Korean Peninsula.
The guest lecturer's first-hand experiences as a Cambodian diplomat in this crucially important period for ASEAN will enrich the contents of this course.
到達目標Goal
This course seeks:
-To broaden students' knowledge on how international relations actually works in real world, particularly within ASEAN.
-To deepen students' understanding on how state's geopolitical position and economic power determine ASEAN member countrys' foreign policy.
-To equip students with theoretical frameworks to analyze ASEAN member countries' relations with China, the U.S., and Japan.
