Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
The aim of this course is to acquire basic chemical knowledge so that the students can understand familiar chemical phenomena and can reflect it in future academic research.
(Learning Objectives)
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1.Account for numerical values and units in chemistry.
2.Account for basic concepts of amount of substance.
3.Account for basic concepts of stoichiometry.
4.Account for electronic structures in atoms.
5.Account for the theoretical background of the periodic table.
6.Account for basic types of chemical bonds.
7.Account for atomic orbital and molecular structures.
8.Account for basic types of intermolecular forces.
(Learning activities)
In order to confirm how well you understand the course content, you should try to solve the practice exercises given in the class. If some of them are difficult to solve, you should review your class note and handouts so that you can get correct answers for all the problems. You are expected to spend four hours for a class.
(Grading Criteria)
Final grade will be decided based on midterm examination (40%), term-end examination (50%), and in-class contribution (10%).
