Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
In the first half of the semester, students read text of about 200 to 400 words of a variety of genres and learn how to read an English text correctly.
In the last half of the semester, students read texts for specific purposes. After understanding the text, students actually assemble a fuel cell car.

【Learning Objectives】
To be able to read and understand texts (200 to 400 words) completely.
This requires not just the knowledge of vocabulary and grammar but also ability to infer the theme and purpose of the test using background knowledge.

- Next class preparation

【Grading Criteria/Policy】
Active participation in class including the short presentation, and the submission of in-class and homework assignments. 70%
Final test 30%

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

前半は、さまざまなジャンルの英文を読み、文の内容を正確に読み取る訓練を行う。
後半は、燃料電池車を組み立てるサイエンスキットのマニュアルをテキストに用い、サイエンスを英語で学ぶ。マニュアルの内容を理解した後で、実際にキットを組み立て、自分の理解が正しいことを確認する。

到達目標Goal

中級レベルの英語長文を毎分140語以上のスピードで読み、内容を完全に理解する。

毎回配布される英文を読んできた上で授業に臨んでください。
授業中、読んできた英文に関連する質問に答える。
内容を把握した後で、グループを作り内容について英語で話し合う。
キットマニュアルの読解では、読んだ内容をその場で理解し、すぐに実践できるよう、速読の技術を身につける。
積極的な授業参加が求められる。
