Outline (in English)

1. 授業概要(Course outline)
Students will read news articles from CNN, BBC, Bloomberg, etc., and deepen their understanding of social issues that recent technological innovation has caused. In this course, students will get accustomed to reading long texts. Students will be able to express their own ideas on how to view these issues and how to solve them.

2. 到達目標(Learning Objectives)
①Students will deepen their understanding of social problems caused by cutting-edge technology.
②Students will be able to discuss better, practical solutions to the problems.
③Students will be used to reading English-language newspapers and magazines.

3. 授業時間外の学習(Learning activities outside of the classroom)
※Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
①Students have to read articles before the lecture.
②After the lecture, students are expected to read the articles aloud at least ten times. (The lecturer designates the range you should read)
③Students are required to prepare for the quiz at the beginning of each lecture.

4. 成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria /Policies)
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Term-end examination: 45%, Quiz: 20%, Presentation: 25%, In-class contribution: 10%.
