Outline (in English)

This class aims at developing students’ knowledge of how to write short essays on intellectual topics which deserve to be discussed by English learners in higher education.
For that purpose, activities in the course are designed to meet two goals.
Firstly, students will acquire a solid basis required for constructing accurate sentences through instantly expressing information and ideas in English and being given feedback from the instructor in each class.
Secondly, students will acquire the basic skill of writing English essays effectively by constantly writing paragraphs based on topics and research.

Students will be expected to do one or two preparations in the following list before each class.
1.Browse news websites created for English learners and select some stories.
2.Summarize one of those stories to be shared in class.
3.Do research to collect relevant information and/or shape your opinions.
4.Write first paragraphs.

After each class, students will be expected to do some of the following tasks.
1.Rewrite first paragraphs following advice from the instructor
2.Research more extensively or in a more focused manner.
3.Write short essays or rewrite them following instructions from the instructor.

Your required study time is at least four hours for each class meeting.

Your final grading will be decided based on contribution and active participation in activities held in the classroom such as brainstorming and exchange of ideas and information (30%) and the process of writing essays (70%).
