Outline (in English)
The purpose of this class is to improve academic reading ability through the development of basic vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure analysis skills. Vocabulary development focuses on considering the context and structure to discern meaning, rather than strict translation between English and Japanese. Grammar and sentence structure instruction emphasizes the use and application of previous knowledge to read actual English. Using these skills, it aims to reinforce basic reading competence as well as rapidly and concisely summarize the gist of the content based on an understanding of paragraph structure.

Goals :In this class, we train skills like vocabularies, grammar, sentence structures that are necessary to understand technical and academic materials. We will also practice to understand the content accurately and summarize effectively. The topics of the readings will vary from domestic and international affairs, work and leisure, environment, business and economy.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
本授業は、英文をセンテンスレベルで正確に組み立てるための基本的な知識や、自分の意見や考えをまとめてパラグラフを書く基礎力を身につけ、エッセイ・ライティング、アカデミック・ライティングを視野に入れた力へと発展させることを目的とする。伝えたいテーマについて調査し、その結果をパラグラフ構成に則って効果的に書く経験を通して、学生に達成感と自信を与える。授業は習熟度別で少人数で行う。
到達目標Goal
この授業では、専門的で学術的な文章を読む時に必要な基本的な語彙力、文法力、構文などを確認しながら、リーディング力の向上を図る。語彙については単に暗記するだけでなく、文脈や文構造を理解する力を鍛える。また文の内容を正確に把握し、文章全体を簡潔に要約できる読解力の養成を目指す。
トピックは現代社会における国内外の社会、仕事と余暇、環境、ビジネスと経済などを扱い、グローバル社会において世の中の情勢を理解し、意見を表現できることを目標とする。

授業の初めに、前回の授業で提出されたリアクションペーパーや課題からいくつか取り上げ、全体に対してフィードバックを行い、授業内で確認していく。
このクラスの教科書はIntroduction, Words in context, Reading, Comprehension 1&2,Vocabulary, Listening 1&2, Your opinionとあり予習が必要な部分と授業で行うところがある。読むことだけではなく、聞くこと、書くこと、話すことも行う。トピックに関する意見や考えを発表する時間、グループディスカッション、ミニプレゼンも行う。
COVID−１９による感染状況により授業形態や成績評価の方法が変更する場合は、学習支援システムにて予定を提示するので確認のこと。
春学期の授業は，原則としてオンラインで行う。 詳細は学習支援システムで伝達する。
