Outline (in English)

【授業の概要(Course outline)】
The purpose of this class is to acquire the basic knowledge of POWER Writing and Paragraph Writing. Students will be able to summarize one's opinions and ideas in a single paragraph. Through the practice of POWER Writing and Paragraph Writing, students will not only learn how to write essays in English but apply the knowledge to reports and papers in Japanese. Classes will be conducted in small groups according to proficiency level.

1. Students acquire the fundamental knowledge of POWER Writing.
2. Students understand the different types of Paragraph Writing.
3. Students learn how to write an essay.
4. Practice makes perfect. Your strenuous effort help your comprehension of POWER writing and Paragraph writing.

【授業時間外の学習(Learning activities outside of classroom)】
Students are expected to spend three hours on preparation and review. Students should run through the designated chapters and prepare for the quiz before class. After class, be sure to review the lesson's important points by reading the distributed materials. Students will also prepare for "Practice of Paragraph Writing" sessions, thinking about what they will write in the English composition exercises.

1. The quality of the English composition(40%)*
2. Quiz (30%)
3. Positive attitude toward group discussions and presentations (20%)
4. Attendance (10%)

*The lecturer evaluates your understanding of POWER writing and Paragraph writing rather than the usage of vocabulary and grammar.
