Outline (in English)
Course outline:
This class aims at developing students’ basic knowledge of accurately constructing English sentences leading to writing paragraphs and essays in which students develop the foundations of academic writing. Attention will be paid to not merely translating to English, but to developing the awareness and skill of writing in a more English-like way, finding and researching good topics, and content-based writing. Classes are leveled and enrollment held to approximately 20 students in order to maximize teaching effectiveness.
Learning objectives:
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
A. Write grammatically correct sentences using appropriate words and phrases in various situations.
B. Understand effective English structure and write logical and persuasive paragraphs on a given topic in English.
C. Write paragraphs on a computer according to formal format and punctuation.
D. Give a presentation with proper pronunciation that is understandable to the audience.
Learning activities outside of classroom:
Students will be expected to complete any tasks that were not completed during the class by the next class.
Grading Criteria:
In-class activities, quizzes and assignments (40%), and essays (60%)

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
本授業は、英文をセンテンスレベルで正確に組み立てるための基本的な知識や、自分の意見や考えをまとめてパラグラフを書く基礎力を身につけ、エッセイ・ライティング、アカデミック・ライティングを視野に入れた力へと発展させることを目的とする。伝えたいテーマについて調査し、その結果をパラグラフ構成に則って効果的に書く経験を通して、学生に達成感と自信を与える。授業は習熟度別で少人数で行う。
到達目標Goal
英文論理構成の基礎や展開法を理解し、それをもとに論理的で説得力のある英語でパラグラフを書き、英語で発表することを目的とする。
1)様々な状況において適切な語彙・語句を使って文法的に正しい文を書くことができる。
2)効果的な英文論理構成の基礎を固め、それを基にあるテーマについて論理的で説得力のある英語でパラグラフを書くことができる。
3)正式な書式・句読法に従ってパソコンでパラグラフを作成する。
4)聞き手に理解してもらえる発音でプレゼンテーションを行うことができる。

1) 一文レベルの基本文を確認する。
2) パラグラフ・ライティングの構造を学び、理解し、書く。
3) 書いたパラグラフを適切に音読する。
