Outline (in English)
Course Outline
This class aims at improving students’ academic reading ability through the acquirement and development of extensive vocabulary, accurate grammatical knowledge and sentence structure analysis skills. As for vocabulary development, this class focuses on comprehending and mastering a wide variety of vocabulary and useful expressions in the science and engineering fields. As for the instruction of grammar and sentence structure, it emphasizes the application of previous knowledge to read actual academic English materials rapidly and concisely.
By the end of the course, students should be able to attain the basic academic reading ability.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
本授業では、学術的な文章を読む際の基本的な語彙力、文法力、構文解析力を養成することによって、リーディング力の向上を図る。語彙については日本語との一対一対応による暗記に留まることなく、文脈や文構造を幅広く考慮に入れて意味をとらえる力へと発展させる。また文法と構文解析については既習知識を活用・応用して実際の英文を読む力を養う。これらのスキルをもとに、精読を通して個々の文の内容を正確に把握したり、文章全体を簡潔にかつ迅
速に要約したり、必要な情報を検索したりすることができる読解力の養成を目指す。１年次で身につけた基礎英語力を更に発展させ、この授業では特にアカデミック（学術的）な内容に関して英語で書かれた文章を正確に理解できるように学習します。

Through individual and collaborative tasks focusing on academic texts, students will further develop their understanding of the workings and characteristics of academic writing, which will enhance their reading efficiency and effectiveness in academic pursuits.
Feedback will be provided in class for in-lesson tasks, and through the Hoppii system for out-of-class and assessed tasks.

①本文内容を事前に読み、授業内で内容を説明できるように準備する。
特に発表の担当者は、本文の重要な点について指摘し、それをもとにクラス内で議論ができるようにする。
②授業の内容に関する小テストを毎回やってもらうので、それにこたえられるようにしっかりと予習を行う。
