Outline (in English)
This class reinforces the development of a rich vocabulary and accurate grammatical knowledge. As technicians or scientists, you will need the ability to comprehend and communicate in English. For the beginning, let's check up basic grammar of English, try to get accustomed to the expressions of everyday-English, and try to explain what you do or think of in English. You are required to prepare for/review class activities at least one hour for each class. You will be assessed: Assignments and Class Activities 70%, final Report 30%.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
本授業は、豊かな語彙力・正確な文法力の定着を図ると同時に、それに支えられた4技能（リーディング、ライティング、リスニング、スピーキング）の総合的な向上を目的とする。理工・生命系の分野では、英語が世界共通語になっていることを受け、将来の技術者・研究者には必要な専門知識を英語で受信・発信できる英語力に加え、社会の要求に応えられる高度な英語運用能力の習得が求められる。本授業では、そのための基礎力・総合力・応用力をつけるべく、学生の英語力を基にどのスキルに重点を置くか見極めた上で、効果的な教授方法を取り入れて実施する。We aim to enhance comprehensive language ability in speaking listening and writing using fertile vocabulary and basic grammar. As the first step, we will try to get language skills by reading everyday topics, making interview and practicing conversation skit through pair/group.

We will practice conversation skit, listening to sample conversation and reading articles on everyday topics. You will be given handouts for the class activities. You have to prepare for the classes checking vocabulary. You will make interviews and reports on given topics, You have to submit assignments for each class and assignment paper will be given back in the next class

To build up vocabulary, check the dictionary frequently and see not only the meaning of word but idioms and preposition/adverb used with the word.

You will be assessed: Class activities and homework assignment 70%
Final Report 30%
You have to submit report or homework assignment for each class.
If you don't attend four or more classes, you will not get the credit.
When you will be late for the class 3 times, it will be counted as 1 absence.

毎回ペアワークでのインタビューを行いますが、より多くの情報を得るために、どんな質問を持ち出すとよいか考えてみましょう。一つの質問から派生的に出てくる質問(follow-up question)を数多く考えることで、表現もひろがっていくでしょう。
Please try to make follow-up questions to get more information from your partner during the interview session. You have to think what kind of questions are valid in order to get information you need. It will help you enhance your conversation skills.
