Outline (in English)

This class covers theories and techniques associated with industrial and systems engineering, especially mathematical optimization.

[Learning objectives]
Upon completion, students should be able to
1. understand the underlying concepts and meanings associated with vectors and matrices,
2. regard various problems in industrial and systems engineering as matrix problems or optimization problem, and
3. solve simple matrix problems and optimization problems by hand calculation.

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
1. Students should spend four hours for preparation and review.
2. Prerequisites:
2-1. Calculus (differentiation of a multivariate function) and
2-2. Linear algebra (elementary transformation, eigenvalue problem).

[Grading criteria]
The final evaluation will be conducted according to: mid-term exam (40%), Final exam (40%), and quizzes (20%).
