Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This course provides important topics concerning fundamentals of fluid dynamics. Students will gain an understanding of the continuity equation of the law of conservation of mass and Bernoulli's theorem of the law of conservation of energy. Students will learn the basics of measuring flow velocity and flow rate based on the theorem. Students will also comprehend the theory of momentum and angular momentum, while learning the basic principles of fluid machinery that transfers energy to and from fluids. In addition, students will learn how to evaluate the internal flow loss in a pipe due to fluid friction caused by viscosity.
【Learning Objectives】
After completing this course, students should be able to:
- Learn the application of Bernoulli's theorem to flow measurement.
- Understand the momentum theorem and angular momentum theorem and apply them to fluid machinery.
- Understand the concepts of laminar and turbulent flows.
- Calculate friction loss in a pipe.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend 4 hours to understand the course content.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Students who achieve a total of 60% or more will pass the course.
