Outline (in English)

Equilibrium thermodynamics is the basic theory of chemistry, the fundamental concepts of which had reached their present form at the end of the 19th century. Any system containing the vast number of particles can be satisfactorily described by eight state functions alone. This aspect of thermodynamics has been fascinating many scientists for more than 150 years. A request will be made to pay particular attention to the state functions called internal energy, enthalpy, entropy, and free energies, as well as the energy transferred between the systems as heat and work. The main objective of this class is to acquire the knowledge of these quantities and learn the problem-solving skills on phase transitions and chemical equilibrium.
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignment tests after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: Term-end examination 40 %; Required assignment tests 40 %; In-class contribution 20 %. You can confirm your scores you have acquired so far in the corresponding course at Hoppii.
