Outline (in English)

Risk management for recurrent earthquake disasters is a key to improve social resilience, which supports future sustainable society, because earthquakes cause serious damages although their frequency is not high. We examine land-condition evaluation and long-term earthquake prediction, in order to propose future land use as well as to suggest how to use social infrastructures.
Students should be able to do the followings by the end of the course: (1) to explain land-condition evaluation and long-term earthquake prediction in the Japanese islands, and (2) to explain issues and propose ideas for land use and social infrastructures. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Grading will be decided based on short reports (30%) and a final report (70%).
