Outline (in English)

【Learning Objectives】
Economic growth has increased the burden of environmental impacts in various dimensions. In this course, we will apply microeconomic theory to environmental issues and consider what kind of policy/regulations are needed to address these issues. This course has three objectives; 1) understand the “nature” of environmental issues and apply economics to counter these issues, 2) understand Japanese environmental policies/regulations and consider further, what kind of actions are needed and 3) position doctoral dissertations within environmental economics context. This course will also discuss microeconomic theory because it is essential in understanding environmental economics.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after class. Your study time will be more than two hours for each class.
【Grading Criteria/Policy】
Your overall grade in class will be decided based on the following:
Take-home test 45%, Term-end assignment 55%.
