Outline (in English)

(Course outline)The objective of this course is to study modeling methods for analyzing the current situation and predicting the future using computer simulation.
(Learning Objectives)The introduction will review representative simulation cases to understand how simulation contributes to the natural or social sciences. The first half of the course will use system dynamics to quantitatively model trends in human society and ecosystems under limited resources (finite resources). Through this, the basic concepts of environmental issues will be discussed. In the second half, students will learn about novel coronavirus infections and the related SIR model, and consider how the simulations are useful to society. In the the first half of the course, the studnets will use Excel and in the second half, the studnets will use Python.
(Learning activities outside of classroom) Preparation for presentation. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.
(Grading Criteria /Policy) The percentage of regular marks and participation in discussions will be 60%, and 40% for practical assignments.
