Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
Exercise epidemiology is an academic discipline to explore the cause-and-effect relationship between exercise and health in humans. This course will provide an overview of the epidemiological research design and explain how to identify and avoid the pitfalls in sports and health studies. Sport-related injury and sports performance will also be addressed in this course.

[Learning Objectives]
Learning goals of this course were;
(1) To learn basic concepts, terminology, and statistics related to exercise epidemiology.
(2) To develop the ability to appropriately understand research findings written in English-language academic articles in sports and health studies.
(3) To foster the ability to design research plans appropriately using the knowledge in exercise epidemiology.

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Students are encouraged to prepare for each class by learning the topics using the Internet or related materials in advance. Then, they are expected to review the contents covered in class. The total time needed to prepare and review each class will be approximately 2 hours.

[Grading Criteria/Policy]
Grading will be relied on attendance (20%), class contributions (30%), and presentations, including performance in question and answer sessions (50%).
