Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Learning music from a wide range of perspectives, this course explores how music that developed in ancient Greece has evolved to the present day, with a focus on Western music and an understanding of its historical background. With a unique perspective from the School of Sports and Health Sciences, as well as insights from an active pianist, this course covers practical topics such as live performance, the musician's body and mind, rhythm fundamentals, and rhythm ensemble exercises.
In addition, through discussions and research on the relationship between various sports and musical elements, this course encourages a reevaluation of the impact that music has on society from various angles.

【Learning Objectives】
The goal is to consciously learn about the power of music that we unconsciously encounter in our daily lives. This involves not only deepening our understanding of Western music but also recognizing the differences between the rhythm of music and that of sports in practical exercises such as rhythm training. Furthermore, in live performances, we hope to discover the charm of music from our individual perspectives by feeling the live atmosphere, the power of music, and even the physical movements and breathing of the pianist's performance up close.
Ultimately, we believe that this will enable us to once again be aware of how we will engage with music in the future.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
I will provide instructions as necessary for preparation for class.
If needed, I will introduce performance videos related to the class, so please use them as a reference for your reports.
For rhythm exercises, materials will be distributed during class so that everyone can review them on their own.
The standard review time for this class is one hour for each session.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
The evaluation will be based on 50% for each report for each class and the final report, with consideration given to attendance during the course. Any absences must be reported in writing.
