Outline (in English)

Course Outline
Technology play an important role in the coexistence of humans and the environment, and humans and humans. However, while technology promote such coexistence, they also threaten it at times. Critical reflection on the impact of technology on human society is essential for a sustainable society. In this course, we will theoretically examine the power that technology exert on human society, based on the findings of the philosophy of technology, and build a foundation for dealing with the problems it brings.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
− Explain the characteristics of modern technology using the concepts covered in the course.
− Explain the impact of technology on human society using the concepts covered in the course.
− Think logically and critically about the problems that and technology can bring about.

Learning activities outside of classroom
Throughout the course period, please pay attention to the problems brought about by technology based on newspapers, movies, science fiction novels, etc., and consider them as problems that concern you. In addition, please take the time to think about the cases we will discuss in class before and after it, and formulate your own ideas. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

Grading Criteria /Policy
Grading will be decided based on in class exam (50%) and in class contribution (50%).
