Outline (in English)

(Course outline and learning objectives): In the spring semester, students will deeply understand the current trends and various issues surrounding public libraries by conducting research investigations in groups. In the fall semester, students are required to visit one central public library in the 23 wards of Tokyo, interview librarians with group members, and make presentations together in order to compare and evaluate public libraries and discover current situations, various issues of the public libraries, and the ways of solving the problems.

(Learning activities outside of classroom):In the spring semester, students should ensure that there is sufficient time for group discussions on research topics and preparation for research presentations.
In the fall semester, the main focus will be on group and individual field research and group activities. Thus, students are expected to actively participate in class and take a leadership role. Students should also be aware that group activities outside of classroom will be required.

Classroom groupware (HULiC) shall be used as a communication tool for both faculty and students. In group activities, students should actively use not only HuliC but also SNS including LINE, etc. as communication tools for simple confirmation.

The standard for out-of-class activities including preparation and review for this class is 2 hours each.

(Grading Criteria /Policy): (1) Group activities, class participation and contribution, and presentations (handouts, presentation materials, etc.) (Spring semester 15% + Fall semester 15% = 30% total)
(2) Individual assignments, questionnaires + individual field research, etc. (20%)
