Outline (in English)

Marketing was born in the U.S. around 1900 and developed and used gradually from 1950. In Japan, it started to penetrate into the business arena from 1960's and is now conceived as a necessity among business and public organizations.
However, many people don't fully understand "what the marketing is" or its various aspects. It can be perceived as sales or advertising activities, or something only related to top business executives, not for ordinary employees. Also, Marketing is a concept/tool to earn profit, not relating to NGO or public sectors.
This lecture aims to give students an opportunity to overview and understand basic marketing concept that can help guide them to work and live effectively in their various career paths in the future. Also, it is designed to synergize with "Distribution and Marketing Strategies" class in Fall Semester to overview latest marketing trends relating to social marketing, SDGs activities, and marketing with IT.
Goals of this Class are:
1) Understand/be able to explain basic terminologies of marketing
2) Acquire/understand general knowledge and concepts of marketing
3) Connect empirical/practical marketing activities with concepts
4) Broadly understand latest marketing elements such as SDGs, Social Marketing, Marketing with IT, and DIY Marketing
