This is a learner-centred course. Students participate in a variety of activities that involves the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Each class centres around pair and group work based on reading and/or listening homework on current affairs and/or cultural issues. The overall class atmosphere is friendly and informal. The lessons will be given in English and online via Zoom given the on-going Covid-19 crisis. Important information will be distributed via HOPPII, and the notifications will be sent to your *Hosei email address*. Students have opportunities to ask questions, give opinions, and voice concerns etc both in class and in a post-lesson questionnaire conducted after each lesson. Feedback on these will be typically given in the next lesson. Feedback on the homework and presentations will be given in class and/or via HOPPII.

学生の意見等からの気づきChanges following student comments
Although conducted online, this course seems to have enabled students to enjoy "talking" to each other in English, make friends, and develop a sense of community through its many communicative activities. Students also felt discussion, presentation, and essay writing skills very useful, and the topics interesting.
