Outline (in English)
【Course Outline】
Students will learn reading/listening/writing skills in English, using English News articles on diverse issues.
【Learning Objectives】
Students will learn to read English newspaper articles with more ease.
They will also learn how to express their opinions on current issues both in spoken and written forms.
【Learning Activities outside of Classroom】
Students are required to read the assigned articles before each class with the use of dictionaries. Almost every week, there are small tests to check the students' preparation as well as their comprehension of the previous class.
【Grading Criteria/Policy】
Students who miss more than 3 classes won't get a credit.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
世界に流通する情報の中で、日本語だけを使ってアクセスできるものなどごく一部でしかありません。インターネットの時代、英語で発信された膨大な情報が手の届くところにあるのだから、それを利用しない手はない筈です。その基礎となるのが、高校までに学んだ英語です。この授業では、文法・語彙・構文をしっかりおさえながら、実際の英語ニュース記事を読んでいきます。また、同テーマの別記事や動画ニュースなども併用し、読んだ記事を鵜呑みにせず「批判的に分析する」critical thinkingの訓練、およびまとまった意見を英語で論理的に書く・しゃべる練習なども行っていきます。
到達目標Goal
・英語ニュース記事のスタイルになれ、読解および聴解によって、記事概要を容易に把握できるようになる。
・記事の要約やそれに対する自分の意見を、文法的に正確な文章で論理的に表現することができる。
・政治・経済・文化などのさまざまな分野の記事に頻出する基本単語を習得する。
・書かれた内容を鵜呑みにせず、それを批判的に分析するスキルを身につける。

教科書をもちいて、世界に発信された様々な英語ニュースをまず聴解し、さらに読解します。全訳をノートに書いてくることが必須の予習です。授業内ではアトランダムに訳をあて、内容理解とともに構文把握を確認していきます。
授業時間中にはリスニングテスト、発音の練習、critical thinkingの実践も行います。英文ライティングの提出も課題となります。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
テキスト全訳をノートに書いてくることが必須の予習です（教科書に訳を書き込むのは不可）。あてられたその場で訳をつくる場合は、予習をしてこなかったものとみなします。
ほぼ毎週、授業前日が締切の予習テストと復習テストをHoppii上で行います。
英文ライティングの提出、リスニングテストの準備も課題となります。
本授業の準備・復習時間は、約1時間を標準とします。
