Outline (in English)

【授業の概要(Course Outline)】
The mission of this course is to provide a basic overall understanding of theoretical and empirical progress in contemporary psychology. On a broader perspective, the underlying aim of this course is to enhance your appreciation of how psychological inquiry as a scientific discipline can advance exploration and understanding of the human condition. Throughout the year, various key concepts, findings, and perspectives in each traditional psychological discipline will be introduced. The cross-disciplinary approach which characterizes positive psychology, the most well-known umbrella term for the scientific study of well-being, will be introduced as well.

【到達目標(Learning Objectives)】
By the end of this course, students are expected to understand psychology from the perspective of social scientific inquiry and that in the context of liberal arts knowledge (see https://www.obirin.ac.jp/academics/arts_sciences/what_is_liberal_arts.html *in Japanese* for what liberal arts means). As knowledge aids the acquisition of more knowledge, students should be able to make use of the knowledge gained from this course as a foundation of further interdisciplinary pursuit. Students who have not enrolled in the spring semester is still welcome to take the course from the fall semester.

【授業時間外の学習(Learning Activities Outside of Classroom)】
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be around two hours before and after each class meeting.

【成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria/Policy)】
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process: Mid-term report (25%), final report (25%), and class-related activities (50%). More details will be explained in the first lecture of each semester.
