Theme: Japanese literature and folklore
"Folk" (folklore) refers to the way of life and mindset that has been collectively formed in the lives of ordinary people in a certain community or a specific community and has been passed down through the ages.

Goal
This lecture aims at the following two goals
・ Compared to general literary research, students can broaden your horizons by learning about the characteristics and significance of folklore-based methods of viewing literature.
・ As the subject name indicates, students can learn an example of an interdisciplinary approach by touching on fields dealing with the integrated area of the humanities and social sciences.
Work to be done outside of class
The standard preparatory study and review time for this class is 2 hours each.I would like you to become familiar with the world on a daily basis, as you can use a modern translation without having the image of a class up to high school in classical literature.

Final exam 85%. Others (questions, content of reaction papers sometimes asked, etc.) 15%

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
テーマ(副題）：日本文学と民俗
「民俗」（民間伝承）とは、ある地域社会、特定のコミュニティーのごくふつうの人々の暮らしの中で集団的に形づくられ、時代を超えて伝えられてきた暮らしぶりや心の持ち方を指します。
「地域（ローカル）」の範囲は、小さくは一つの集落、大きくは世界（グローバル）の中の日本という「地域」といったように、さまざま設定できます。この授業では世界の中の日本、という視野のもと、こうした「民間伝承」を研究対象とする「民俗学」を採り入れた日本文学研究の世界を、『万葉集』『古事記』『日本書紀』『風土記』『古今和歌集』『源氏物語』等、主として上代・中古の文学の中から事例を選んで紹介します。民俗学的な日本文学研究とは、個々の作者・作品の個性や創意、時代性を超えて、現代の私たちの心の底にまで伝わっていると考えられるような集団的心性を、残された言語表現を通じて探ろうとするものである、といえるでしょう。このような性格のため、「個」（一作者や作品）の芸術性の追究といったことを期待する人には、不向きと思われます。

・一般的な文学研究に比べて、民俗学的に文学を見る方法の特色・意義を知り、視野を広げられること。
・科目名が示すように、人文科学と社会科学の融合領域を扱う分野に触れ、学際的なアプローチの一例を学べること。

教室での対面授業を基本とする、ふつうの講義形式です。（事情がある場合は、オンライン参加も可とします。）小説の構成に喩えれば、テーマに沿って２～3回で完結する例題を並べていく「短編小説集」のような構成と思って下さい。
気軽な質疑応答の時間や、（時々）リアクションペーパーにより感想を記す時間を十分に採り入れます。
