Outline (in English)

This course deals with occidental literature, especially works adapted for music. Literature, which expresses its objects by signs, and music, which appeals to sentiments by way of sequences of sounds, are closely related to each other. Stories were, in effect, once sung accompanied by musical instruments.
The works dealt with during the spring term will be:
"Les Misérables" (musical), "Carmen"(opera), "Romeo and Juliet" (movie, ballet, opera), "West Side Story" (musical).
Through this course students are expected to get knowledge to appreciate analytically and critically literary and musical works.
Students should read beforehand relevant works. They need also to submit an assignment after having studied each work, for which they must spend at least two hours.
Final grade will be calculated according to the total score of their assignments (100%).
