Outline (in English)

Course outline:

At the beginning of the study at the Faculty of Lifelong Learning and Career Studies, the basic seminar aims to introduce students how to learn in university and equip them with basic learning skills.
Based on literature describing “life, work, and learning” from personal viewpoints, students reflect on their own viewpoints by understanding the text and examining their points of argument. Then, students make logical and compelling discussions.


Learning Objectives:

When you have finished this course, you will have developed much of the skills written below:

1. Search and collect information relevant to your academic interests
2. Understand and summarize academic papers and quantitative and/or
qualitative data
3.Write a paper and discuss issues that are comprehensive to the audience
4.Present your opinions by listening to others and understanding their points of view



Method(s):

This course with small class sizes is designed to establish students' academic skills and readiness for professional learning actives in college. Students will first learn about how to engage in academic activities in college. By participating a guidance tutorial given by library stuffs, students will then develop skills to access to the information such as collecting articles and documents. Students are expected to develop styles of critical thinking through the review of literatures and class discussions, so that they are eligible to complete a research report and given a presentation based on that report.



Learning activities outside of classroom:

The main purpose of this class is for students to establish a host of academic skills so that they as passive learners as are in high school can transform themselves into active learners in college. Students are expected not only to actively participate in class but also engage in academic activities outside of the classroom.

Grading Criteria /Policy:

45 points (%) for participation,class assignments,and group activities
55 points (%) for class presentation and reflection papers
