Outline (in English)
Learning objectives: (1) to study about Japanese enterprises and their impact on the development of the Japanese economy and society; (2) to improve academic and workplace skills through various learning activities, namely by preparing and making an academic presentation in December at the competition hosted by the Faculty of Economics (経済学部大会).
Learning activities outside of class: Students are expected to do their reading assignments, prepare their presentations, and conduct fieldwork in groups inside and outside of class.
Grades will be based on (1) participation, (fieldwork outside of class and presentation preparation in the classroom), (2) attitude (including being prepared for class), teamwork, seminar management, etc. (50%), and (3) taking part in the presentation competition (50%).

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
In this seminar whose theme is Japanese business and society, students will learn about Japanese enterprises and their impact on the development of the Japanese economy and society. They will also improve their academic and (practical) workplace skills by preparing and making an academic presentation at the competition hosted by the faculty of economics (経済学部大会).
到達目標Goal
The goal of this seminar is for students to develop three types of skills: (1) critical thinking skills through in-class discussions of Japanese business and society, (2) academic skills through active learning in the form of empirical research projects, fieldwork, and presentations, and (3) leadership skills by directly engaging in seminar management. It is hoped that this seminar will stimulate students' intellectual curiosity and provide a space for them to build lasting friendships with all those they meet inside and outside the seminar..

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Grades will be based on (1) participation in classroom activities, such as fieldwork and presentation preparation, (2) attitude (including being prepared for class), teamwork, seminar management, etc. (50%), and (3) taking part in the presentation competition (50%).
*All students are required to make a group presentation at the competition in December in order to pass this course. They must also organize and conduct fieldwork and submit their course feedback survey on the last day of class.
