Outline (in English)

This seminar focuses on applied microeconomics and microeconometrics.

The three goals of this seminar are as follows. First, students understand empirical tools of applied microeconomics through lectures, discussions, and exercises, with textbooks. Then, using the toolkits, students conduct empirical studies based on their own research interests. Finally, students complete research papers based on the empirical results and acquire effective presentation skills.

Before each class meeting of reading circle session, students will be expected to have thoroughly read relevant chapter(s) from textbooks, and to solve the problem sets in exercise sections (about two hours required). For research project, students will be expected to learn empirical methods, survey related works, prepare datasets, conduct analysis, and complete thesis, systematically (about two hours required).

The grade will be based on report, homework, in-class presentation, and in-class contribution (100%).

Students should bring their laptops to every session.
