Outline (in English)

We study the concepts and methodologies in managerial economics, which provides practical toolkits for managerial decision. This course applies microeconomics, game theory, and industrial organization, to understand the interactions of firm behavior and its effect on welfare. This course will focus on, but not limited to, the topics as follows: oligopoly, vertical and horizontal product differentiation, cartel, market power, vertical integration and restraint. In the course, we also discuss real-world examples, that make it easy for students to understand each concept.

The goal of this course is understanding the mechanism and effects of various management strategy (eg. collusive behavior, vertical restraints, and so on) in oligopolistic competition, and the role of public policy on such strategies.

Students will be expected to thoroughly prepare each class meeting using course materials which provided through HOPPII (about two hours required), and, after each class meeting, to complete a homework assignment through HOPPII within a week (about two hours required).

Students are required comprehension of introductory microeconomics and game theory, while we will briefly review them in the course.

The grade will be based on the final exam (50-80%) and the homework (20-50%).
