Outline (in English)

We learn in microeconomics that transactions conducted through markets achieve the desired state in terms of "efficiency" and "fairness". However, in reality, there are problems that cannot be solved by markets (market failures), and therefore, government intervention in markets is necessary. In this lecture, we will overview how the government should intervene in various types of market failures. It will also raise students' awareness of the issues by introducing related real-world economic problems.

The goal of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of public economics in terms of expenditures, so that they will be able to understand economically the purposes for which governments deal with real economic problems.

Students are required to prepare and review this class for at least four hours per week. Students are also required to review Microeconomics AB (2nd year) and the lecture materials distributed by the class support system (Hoppii) to prepare for the lecture. Be sure to do the practice exercises as a review of the lecture.

Evaluation will be based on classroom examinations (100%). Details will be announced in the lecture.
