Outline (in English)

〔Course outline〕
This course is for intermediate level students to learn basic daily conversation and how to read and write complex sentences, which include conjunctions, idioms and phrases.

〔Learning Objectives〕
The goal of this course is to develop the Chinese language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing at the level of HSK 1 and 2.
To achieve this goal, students learn the complex sentences through the use of Chinese traditional stories in class and expanding Chinese vocabulary through the use of e-learning homework.

〔Learning activities outside of the classroom〕
Students will be expected to complete the e-Learning homework to expand known Chinese vocabulary at the level of HSK1 and 2, which can be achieved on a computer or a smart-phone.
The homework is expected to require an hour or more for students to complete.

〔Grading Criteria /Policy〕
The overall grade in the class will be decided according to the achievement levels of the Hosei university standard. The deciding process is as follows:
・①A short class examination(90%) and classwork(10%) for each class.
・②Up to 200 marks will be awarded for the completion of the e-Learning homework, which is calculated as an additional 2 classes.
The average scores calculated from the sums of ① and ②, will be applied to decide the overall grade.
To be noted: If a student cannot take the short class examination due to being absent or late, no score will be awarded. Only students who have an acceptable reason for not taking the examination, will be allowed to take a re-examination. However, late submission of classwork will not be accepted for any reason, even at a later date.
