Outline and objectives

Students will practice the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing, however the emphasis will be on speaking and listening. During the semester, students will do two listening tests, listening homework every two weeks, regular mini-presentations, vocabulary homework, online homework, a midterm assignment, and a final assignment. Classroom work will focus on practicing vocabulary, completing the activities in the textbook, constructing small presentations, and delivering the small presentations for classmates. To succeed in this class, students must participate actively, speak in English, do the online homework, and study for the tests.

Classes will be interactive with students working in pairs. Active communication will be the main goal of this class. Most weeks, the teacher will explain each textbook unit, and students are expected to actively communicate with their partner for most of the class time. Communicative and cooperative learning will be the main teaching methods of this class, and as a result, students must be active and engaged in their learning. Students will receive feedback from the teacher. Students will receive personalized feedback after the submission of homework assignments. Students will also receive feedback in response to the course evaluation at the end of the semester.

Quizlet vocabulary homework, MyELT homework, listening homework. Before each lesson, students will need to do approximately 4 hours of homework and preparation, which includes listening homework, vocabulary homework, and online textbook homework.
