Outline (in English)
This is a technical writing class for Digital Media students. This class reinforces the development of a rich vocabulary and accurate grammatical knowledge, and based on this knowledge, aims at the comprehensive development of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). In the science and engineering fields, English is the common language. Technicians and scientists of the future will need the ability to comprehend and communicate in English to meet the need of society for high levels of English. In order to meet this need, this class emphasizes the development of basic, comprehensive skills and knowledge and the ability to apply them. Based on the needs of students, a variety of effective approaches will be used to strengthen basic English competency.

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
デジタルメディア学科の学生を対象としたテクニカルライティングの授業です. 本授業は、豊かな語彙力・正確な文法力の定着を図ると同時に、それに支えられた4技能(リーディング、ライティング、リスニング、スピーキング)の総合的な向上を目的とする。理工・生命系の分野では、英語が世界共通語になっていることを受け、将来の技術者・研究者には必要な専門知識を英語で受信・発信できる英語力に加え、社会の要求に応えられる高度な英語運用能力の習得が求められる。本授業では、そのための基礎力・総合力・応用力をつけるべく、学生の英語力を基にどのスキルに重点を置くか見極めた上で、効果的な教授方法を取り入れて実施する。

例1:英語でのコミュニケーションについて紹介します。
例2:ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションで自分の考えを伝えるために、リスニングとリーディングのスキルを身につけることを目的としたコースです。
例3: このコースでは、学生の英語学習の基礎となるコンピュータ・サイエンスの実生活に関わる問題を扱います。

In this class you will develop specialist vocabulary in your subject area.

In this class we will be focusing on how to use numbers, graphs, and charts in your writing.

In this class you will analyse and understand different formats of writing.

You will get started working on your writing by choosing your research topic.

You will discuss the research you have done for your topic.

In this class we will examine the different formats and structures of writing.

You will by now understand your topic. You will begin planning your writing.

You can spend this time starting to write while discussing issues with peers and teacher.

You will have finished your writing. It will be a first draft. You will share with others and get some feedback.

Final deadline for your writing and a presentation of your writing.

例 1:Students will be expected to be self-motivated and do at least one hour of research on their chosen issues.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
例 1:Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: 1 x essay and presentation (60%) and class participation (40%). There will be no final test. Pass mark 60%.
例 2:Students receive a higher class participation score when they are prepared with the homework, volunteer to answer or ask questions, and participate effectively in pair/group work.
例 3:Students who miss five or more class sessions without a valid excuse (like an extended illness) may be failed.
