Outline (in English)
This class reinforces the development of a rich vocabulary and accurate grammatical knowledge, and based on this knowledge, aims at the comprehensive development of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). In the science and engineering fields, English is the common language. Technicians and scientists of the future will need the ability to comprehend and communicate in English to meet the need of society for high levels of English. In order to meet this need, this class emphasizes the development of basic, comprehensive skills and knowledge and the ability to apply them. Based on the needs of students, a variety of effective approaches will be used to strengthen basic English competency.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
本授業は、豊かな語彙力・正確な文法力の定着を図ると同時に、それに支えられた4技能（リーディング、ライティング、リスニング、スピーキング）の総合的な向上を目的とする。理工・生命系の分野では、英語が世界共通語になっていることを受け、将来の技術者・研究者には必要な専門知識を英語で受信・発信できる英語力に加え、社会の要求に応えられる高度な英語運用能力の習得が求められる。本授業では、そのための基礎力・総合力・応用力をつけるべく、学生の英語力を基にどのスキルに重点を置くか見極めた上で、効果的な教授方法を取り入れて実施する。

例1：英語でのコミュニケーションについて紹介します。
例2:ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションで自分の考えを伝えるために、リスニングとリーディングのスキルを身につけることを目的としたコースです。
例3: このコースでは、生徒の英語学習の基礎となる、コンピュータサイエンス、デジタルメディア、自然科学、工学の実生活に即したトピックを扱います。

例 2:The aim of this course is to help students acquire listening and reading skills in order to communicate ideas in discussion and presentation forms.
例 3:This course deals with real life computer science, digital media, natural science, and engineering topics that will form the basis of students English learning.

例 1:Every three weeks, students will complete a research project. In preparation for this students will conduct research in class and for homework.
例 2:For homework, students will be expected to learn about their topic, take notes, and bring those notes to class for discussion.
例 3:In class, students will discuss their research in small groups in addition to individually completing tasks assigned by the teacher.
例 4:At the end of each project 'cycle', students will present their research in small groups using poster or computer aids.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
例1：授業の総合的な成績は、以下の項目で決定されます。プロジェクト発表4回（各20％）。授業への参加度(10%) TOEICテストの結果（10％）、TOEICテスト未受験の場合は全く評価されません。合格点 60.
例 2:Students receive a higher class participation score when they are prepared with the homework, volunteer to answer or ask questions, and participate effectively in pair/group work.
例 3:Students who miss five or more class sessions without a valid excuse (like an extended illness) may be failed.
例1：授業の総合的な成績は、以下の項目で決定されます。プロジェクト発表4回（各20％）。授業への参加度（10％）。TOEICテストの結果（10％）、TOEICテスト未履修の場合は全く単位を与えない。期末テストはありません。合格点は60％です。
例2：宿題を準備し、自ら進んで回答や質問をし、ペアワークやグループワークに効果的に参加した場合、授業への参加率が高くなります。
例3：病気などの正当な理由なく5回以上欠席した場合、不合格とすることがある。
例4：成績評価には「Academic Express」の履修が必要です。また、TOEICのテストが必要です。これは成績の10％になります。
