Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】
Sound and light are important to understand various fields in information science, e.g. they are physical phenomena essential for information transmission. The aim of this class is to understand basic properties of sound and light, and also to apply and understand these techniques to the various related phenomena.

Prerequisites are “Basics of Natural Science”, “Basic Calculus”, and “Linear Algebra”. Completion of “Application of Calculus 1” will be helpful in this class.

【Learning Objectives】
The aim of this class is to understand basic properties of vibrations and waves physically and also to learn how to express various phenomena in mathematical expressions.

【Learing activities outside of classroom】
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each meeting. Four hours will be your standard study time for this class.

【Grading Criteria/Policies】
Overall grade in this class will be decided based on the followings;
Assignments: 15%, Quizes in each class: 10%, Mid-term examination: 20%, Final examination: 50%
