Outline (in English)
This course aims to equip the students with necessary knowledge and skills to critically evaluate and analyze foreign media content. This course will begin with an overview of the global phenomenon of fake news and its impact on society, followed by discussions on new approaches to media analysis. Students will then analyze specific case studies on Myanmar (Burma) media.

This course aims to develop students' critical thinking with a focus on the challenges of distinguishing between fake news and trustworthy information. Through readings and discussions with a main focus on news on Myanmar (Burma), students will learn how to identify, analyze, interpret, and evaluate media content, and develop the necessary skills to make informed judgments about the credibility of media.

The course aims to enhance students' critical thinking skills and their ability to identify, analyze, interpret, and evaluate media content. It also intends to make students better equipped to express ideas and opinions and prepare them for informed participation in the media, both as consumers and creators.

Learn how to question our own perceptions, and other cognitive biases to develop critical thinking skills.

Introduction to various media analysis frameworks and their relevance to media analysis.

Discussion of historical, political, and cultural factors that shape Myanmar (Burma) media.

Discussion of media ethics and the role of media in shaping public opinion.

Overview of different propaganda techniques and their effectiveness.
Discussion of how to identify and counter propaganda.

Analysis of propaganda in Myanmar media.
Discussion of how propaganda is used to influence public opinion in Myanmar (Burma).

Case studies of citizen journalism in Myanmar and its impact on media coverage.

Overview of different types of bias (e.g. gender bias, racial bias). Analysis of bias and representation in Myanmar (Burma) media.

Discussion of the role of media in democracy.
Analysis of media's impact on democratization in Myanmar (Burma).

Discussion of the impact of media on conflict and peace-building.
Case studies of social media's impact on conflict, genocide against Rohingyas in Myanmar (Burma).

Presentation and discussion of final projects.

*The final project will require students to analyze a media-related issue and present their findings through a written report and oral presentation.
