Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
This course introduces students to the field of linguistics, the scientific study of language. The fall semester focuses on examining the sounds of language and how they are produced (phonetics) and organized (phonology).
[Learning objectives]
Through this course, students should be able to understand the basic principles of phonetics and phonology, and develop problem-solving skills. They should be able to develop greater awareness of language-related phenomena and problems in their daily lives.
[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Students are expected to study the assigned materials, work on homework assignments, and prepare for the next class. The standard study time required before and after each class is 4 hours total.
[Grading criteria/policy]
Your overall grade will be determined based on attendance and class participation (25%), midterm test (25%), and final test (50%). and in-class presentations (60%). As a rule, if you are absent for more than 4 classes or neglect to take the final test without a legitimate reason, course credit will not be granted.
