This course introduces students to cognitive science, an interdisciplinary field that studies how the mind works, that is, the mental processes that enable people to engage in everyday activities such as seeing, hearing, using language, remembering, thinking, and interacting with others.
[Learning objectives]
Through this course, students should be able to understand and explain based on their own experiences the mechanisms underlying mental processes such as visual and auditory perception, language, memory, reasoning, and social cognition.
[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Students are expected to study the assigned materials, work on homework assignments, and prepare for the next class. The standard study time required before and after each class is 4 hours total.
[Grading criteria/policy]
Your overall grade will be determined based on attendance and class participation (25%), midterm test (25%), and final test (50%). and in-class presentations (60%).
