Outline (in English)

Geography is the study of the characteristics of human life and culture, especially in terms of their interaction with the environment. Cultural geography, in particular, has been strongly interested in the relationship between humans and places. Human beings have used places as resources under the constraints of given environmental conditions. As a result, we can say that a variety of local characteristics have been produced in human life. In this course, students will learn to understand the dynamism of human power over places through lectures on the processes by which places take on special meaning, are given value, and are commodified. In particular, students are expected to deepen their understanding of the current situation and issues surrounding the commodification of culture through the lectures and pre and post-lecture studies. The topics to be covered in the lectures will be determined based on the interests of the students.

Students are expected to search for and read relevant literature and collect information on the region as preparatory study. Students are required to submit a reaction paper and a small issue in each class session, so they should review the contents of the class and prepare homework assignments.
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course conten.

The evaluation will be based on the ratio of the end-of-term report or written exam (50%) and the reaction paper or small issue (50%) to be submitted after the lecture.
