Outline (in English)
This course focuses on the basis knowledge of Petrology and Sedimentology in Geology.
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
－A) understand the basics of Earth Science in relation to Petrology and Sedimentology, and be able to explain them in own words,
－B) understand the origin of rocks and the basics of their theory, and be able to roughly distinguish the type of rocks,
－C) understand the basics of Sedimentology, and be able to roughly estimate the sedimentary environment from the sedimentary structure.
Before/after each class meeting students will be expected to spend two hours to understand the course content.
Grading will be decided based on the quality of the student’s performance and presentation (20%) , report (30%) and short tasks (50%).

地質学の中でも岩石学と堆積学に関する基本的な知識や理論について体系的に学ぶ。
到達目標Goal
１）地球科学の基礎を岩石学や堆積学と関連づけて理解し、自分の言葉で説明することができる
２）岩石の成因やその理論の基礎を理解し、岩石の種類をおおよそ判別することができる
３）堆積学の基礎を理解し、堆積構造からおおよその堆積環境を推定することができる

講義形式で進めつつ、授業内で標本観察やスケッチ等の簡単な実習・実験作業を授業内課題として行う。課題へのフィードバックは次回の授業で行う。毎回の授業の最後にコメントシート（感想、質問など）を提出してもらう。次回の授業開始時に、前回提出されたコメントシートからいくつか取り上げ、コメントに対するフォローを行う。コメントシートや時事などに応じて、各テーマから若干異なる内容を授業内で展開する場合がある。

岩石学や地質学を中心とした地質学や地球科学をめぐる動向や社会的な応用に日々関心を持ち、テキストに加え新聞や雑誌などからの情報収集に努めること。本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、各2 時間を標準とします。
