Outline (in English)

This course explores modern US history, with an emphasis on gender and higher education. Women's educational advancements served as cornerstones of gender equality in the United States, creating gender/sexuality studies as established disciplines and promoting sexual violence prevention programs on campus and beyond.
Students will gain basic knowledge of gender and education in the United States. They will also learn how to interpret English-language primary sources.
This will be a lecture course. Every week students will submit response papers in Japanese. Some of the reading materials are available only in English.
Approximately four hours of study and preparation are required. Students need to do weekly readings and submit response papers as some of them will be discussed in class. Students are also expected to study on their own for weekly quizzes in Japanese.

A breakdown of the final grade will be:

Weekly Assignments:30%
Quizzes:30%
Final Exam:40%
